Digital Release of Helpful Thoughts from Hudson Taylor: One for Every Day in the Month

Messages speak to us most deeply when expressed in a language we truly understand. We are delighted to announce that Helpful Thoughts from Hudson Taylor: One for Every Day in the Month has been translated and is now available in Traditional Chinese. This means that many more people can be encouraged by these uplifting messages.

The Heart Behind Every Language
“Every language is a world. Without translation, we would be living in provinces bordering on silence.”
— George Steiner

This quotation reminds us that every language is a world of its own. When we speak different languages, we each experience life in unique ways. Translation allows us to cross those borders, share ideas, tell stories, and learn from one another.

Without translation, it would be difficult to communicate with people who speak other languages. With it, however, we can share wisdom, connect our stories, and build bridges across the world.

Hudson Taylor’s Helpful Thoughts: Encouragement Across Generations
One example of how translation uplifts others is found in the Helpful Thoughts series by Hudson Taylor. Over the years, Taylor wrote many reflections in his various publications. In the 1920s, some of these reflections were gathered and first published in English as six booklets.¹

These booklets cover themes such as God’s Guiding Hand, God’s Fellow Workers, When Thou Prayest, Dwelling in Him, Great is Thy Faithfulness, and Fruit Bearing. They offer readers hope and insight for each day. Compiled to inspire and strengthen people in their Christian faith, these booklets have already touched many lives.

A Journey That Reaches Even More Hearts
English and Chinese are two of the most widely spoken languages in the world. There are 1,528 million speakers of English and 1,184 million speakers of Chinese, counting both first- and second-language speakers.² The translated booklets will now greatly benefit many Chinese readers.

Yet the journey does not end here. We hope and pray that these booklets will one day be available in even more languages—such as Burmese, Hebrew, Japanese, Malayalam, Mongolian, Tagalog, Tibetan, and Vietnamese.

These languages were suggested by people involved in this project in response to the question: “What other language would you like these six booklets to be translated into?”

An Invitation to Be Part of the Story
As we look ahead, we are asking God to raise up and call Christian translators to help bring these booklets to life in other languages, using either the original English text or the Traditional Chinese translation. In this way, many more people can be encouraged and strengthened by Hudson Taylor’s words.

Of the languages listed above, which would you most like to see these booklets translated into next? We would love to hear your thoughts—please let us know by emailing nyi.ma.me.tog.cube@gmail.com. We also invite you to join us in praying for this project. Feel free to share this article or the booklets with anyone who might benefit.
